Small Update.

Working on my full review for Lost Dimension for the site Empty Life Bar.

But figured I’d pop up a shout out to one of my fave tracks of the moment. Carly Rae Jepsen has a new album coming out soon and this is my favourite song I’ve heard off it so far.

I write game reviews and previews now

Sorry for the lack of updates.

However just wanted to let everyone know that I now am a member of the staff of Emptylifebar.com where I do gaming reviews previews and other game related stuff. Make sure to check me out there. 🙂

Heres a sample of what I’ve been up to.

New Music

June 3, 2015

Kind of song of the week kind of posting to say I’m still around just haven’t gotten around to posting much content lately. That being said one of my fave artists has a new album out this week so I figured I’d post of the video of it.

Wrestlemania, The place where new stars are made

March 31, 2015

Song of the week.

I didn’t say the song would be good every week.

Wrestling isn’t wrestling

One of my favourite youtube videos of late is this gem.

Story matters in wrestling. So I have decided for fun to attempt to see how every storyline culminated at the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania.

If you watch wrestling this will make a lot more sense than if you don’t. I will try and give descriptions of people I haven’t talked about on.

Well, it’s the pre show

Tag Team Turducken
New Day VS CesaroKidd VS Los Matadores VS Jey Uso

Before Wrestlemania: Unfortunately WWE never has cared much about it’s tag division. So there isn’t much here. I’ll try my best to set up the narrative to this match.

The Usos having a dominant year have hit a snag of late, They lost the belts to a newly formed tag team of Cesaro and Tyson Kidd. Wrestlemania would be the perfect time to reclaim them but Jimmy Uso got injured and it is unknown if he can even wrestle at the event. They also suffered rare losses to other teams involved in this four way. Can they overcome their failures as of late and reclaim the belts.

Los Matadores is a tag team consisting of two bullfighters and a midget dressed up as their little bull El Torito. It’s a kind of racist gimmick. WWE has a problem with generalizing people from time to time. That aside they’ve won a couple of matches in the last few months and have earned their spot in this match.

The New Day is a faction that was created when three wrestlers who were friends who shared interests and happened to be black decided to try and make a group that brought forward their strengths and combined them. Xavier Woods intellect, Big E (who lost his last name to a angry russian) and the speed and high flying of Kofi Kingston. They were set to be a impressive faction breaking stereotypes and ….. WWE saddled them with a gospel/preacher gimmick that pretty much everyone hates. To the point where crowds are chanting they suck even though they are supposed to be the good guys. They are a extremely talented group and it annoys me to see them be treated like this.

Lastly the champions are Cesaro (who sold his first name to win a battle royal last year at wrestlemania) and Tyson Kidd. Kidd is married to Natalya Neidhart. The Hart’s are a famous Canadian wrestling family and the general joke of this team is that Tyson doesn’t appreciate his wife while his wife is a bigger deal than he is. Also they both love chicken fries.

The story leading into mania for them is they just recently got the belts off the Usos and hope to show their dominance and skill by keeping their belts at mania.

Results: At the start of the match the injured Uso gets attacked immediately taking him out of the match. What follows is a impressive high energy match that ends with Tyson Kidd and Cesaro retaining the belts by stealing the pin from the remaining Uso. No real complaints here. Tyson and Cesaro needed to keep the belts for now and the match did a great job of giving a lot of people big impactful moments of action. Even all the competitors not in the match got to do something cool.

The Andre the Giant Memorial way to try to give the majority of the roster a paycheque for Wrestlemania
Originally set to be on the actual main show, this match was bumped to the preshow. I’m not going to give rundowns for every single competitor in this match due since there’s like 25 people in it but I’ll try and give the story leading into it and throw in a few names that were more prominent leading up to the show.

Curtis Axel- Earlier in the year he was attacked before entering the last big battle royal styled match. Since he never entered the ring he was technically never eliminated. He’s run with that and has declared a movement entitled Axelmania to right the wrongs that has occurred to him. The commentators treat him as a joke however it’s weird to say here but this is the most liked Curtis Axel has been with people in his entire run in the company so far. A win here could help him be perceived as a threat and not a joke.

Ryback,The Big Show, Kane, Mark Henry- Four large dominant power wrestlers in the WWE of varying ages and wrestling ability. A win here could help them a bit even though they’re known as powerful wrestlers none of them have had any big accomplishments as of late. Big Show and Kane are supposed to be the heavy hitters who work for the evil bosses of the company but as of late haven’t been able to work together. Mark Henry has just returned after a bit of a absence and Ryback is finally starting to get fan support.

Miz and Damien Sandow- If Johnny Cage was somehow even more of a asshole and became a pro wrestler we’d have The Miz. The Miz who decided that wrestling might injure his face so he hired a skilled cosplayer to pretend to be him in matches. Do the two men look alike at all? Nope. Unfortunately for Miz his stunt double is becoming more popular than him every day so Miz has spent the last couple of months attempting to keep his stunt double in his place so he can continue to use him to help him out. Miz believes that without him Damien Sandow (Now Mizdow) would end up fading into obscurity kind of like the last person to work for The Miz. Could one of them winning prove to the other which is the bigger star? Will Mizdow finally stand up for himself after being bullied by The Miz for so long.

Hideo Itami- A famous Japanese wrestler who inspired one of the biggest wrestlers in the past decade (CM Punk) has finally made it to WWE. Winning this would be a great first impression. Less so now that it’s on the pre show but still.

Cesaro- If he trades his last name to win this year, he will have no name left.

20 other superstars: There’s a lot of underappreciated talents here. Unfortunately none of them really have any story going into this match and therefore are highly unlikely to win it. That being said a win here would help any of them begin a new storyline.

Result:

The winner ended up being The Big Show. A lot of people don’t love that but I’ll get back to that in a minute.

Miz and Mizdow’s story came to a head in the match, first having The Miz’s former protege who hasn’t been seen in years be in the match to attempt to get some revenge on Miz. Later having Mizdow toss Miz out of the ring to finally stand up for himself and try to go it on his own.

Itami made a small impact but was tossed out fairly easily by Big Show who eclipsed him in size.

Axel showboated and got the entire ring to eliminate him immediately by just being a ass.

Cesaro Ryback and Kane all had strong showings but all came up short in the match.

Anyway, back to the match the end result was Mizdow and Big show going 1 on 1. Mizdow tries to rally everything to eliminate the giant but fails.

The Big Show wins. A lot of people will say that Big Show doesn’t need the win. Except he kind of does.

Big Show is supposed to be this scary giant a useful tool for the big bad Authority to keep the roster in line. He comes off as more of a whiny jerk who can never get the job done. Him winning this adds another notch to his belt. This is a man who is looked at as a a threat in every Battle Royal/Royal Rumble but has never won a big one. Him winning this actually enforces that the giants are a threat in these type of matches. That if you don’t eliminate them when there’s enough people to do it together you may never eliminate them. Big Show was brought in as kind of a replacement for the late Andre The Giant so in that way it’s also kind of fitting that he won. It gives him power without him having to take a belt off someone or singlehandedly make someone look terrible in the ring. Do I like that the Big Show won? No

But the match isn’t that big of a deal. It didn’t help Cesaro last year by winning it and in the long run it’s not that big of a accomplishment. But to Big Show it is. Someone like Big Show shouldn’t win the rumble, or money in the bank. But he needs to be seen as someone who can win something like those matches. This does that.

Brogue Kickstarter!

February 19, 2015

I am not going to do a kickstarter for my blog… don’t worry.

The next few posts will be about Kickstarters I myself have pledged to and their current status.

STARTING WITH

Everyone’s favourite’s the FAILED KICKSTARTERS!

Citizens of Earth!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/499609193/citizens-of-earth-a-modern-rpg

Goal: 36875/100000

Description from Devs:A modern RPG that places you in the shoes of the Vice President of the World and all of the heroes are regular people!

My would be pledge: 30$ (I wanted the digital Artbook)

Price on storefronts when released: 15$ (2 week launch discount)

A quirky game that just didn’t seem to connect with people’s money for Kickstarter, maybe it was a bad time, who knows. Atlus however stepped in with the save picking up the project and it ended up getting released on PS4,Vita, Wii U, 3DS and Steam.

Quicky Review:
The game is a lot of fun. However it probably needed a little more polish before release, there have been reports of bugs and the music though not terrible is very repetitive and in my opinion hurts the end product. The cast in the game are amazing, each character has their own unique movesets. The voice acting really adds to the game adding humour and more life to the great animations.
It’s a fun game and though there are issues I’d recommend people go out and try it.

Relaunch…Maybe, Idk.

February 19, 2015

I have decided I am going to start up the blog once more. It’s been a while since I’ve blogged so bear with me.

The blog will still have a occasional throwback VSsystem post (I have some old fave decks I always wanted to share with the internet) but will have new more current content be the main feature.

What will the blog now post about you say?

Video Games
It is 2015. Next Gen is here and it’s underwhelming. Expect occasional reviews and some rants.  I am into the Amiibo craze so expect Amiibo content from a Canadian’s perspective and thoughts on all the different retailers and what not.

Television and Movies
Since 2008 Marvel doesn’t have a card game presence anymore. That being said Marvel hit it big in 2008 with Iron Man and hasn’t looked back since. Releasing hit after hit movie and marginally successful TV show after TV show we live in a age where we’re getting movies made about Ant Man and The Guardians of the Galaxy. Expect reviews of upcoming Marvel films and tv.

Hearthstone
I play Warcraft, I play card games. Of course I’m going to love Hearthstone. That being said I’m not a pro player but I’m going to attempt to become a better player and create decks that are creative and interesting.

WWE
I will be writing the occasional wrestling article on here as well.

Music
There will now be a song of the week.

Anyway the first post will be up soon and will focus on Kickstarter, another site that did not exist in 2008.

Til then,

Hulk Smash!
Rusev Crush!

MEV PREVIEW SINISTER DISCIPLES

October 31, 2008

So you want to play Marauders?

I know I do. I want all the cool Gambit tricks and the insane Mystique stealing and the deception of Mr. Sinister.

But then you gotta go into the think-tank. How much is this gonna cost me? I mean the team tutors got ridiculous during the Marvel Universe set. Avengers Reassembled goes on a good day for 20$ most of the time more, Warbound to the End not as much but still tough. Especially for a legend team, sure you could just use Mobilize or Call in a Favor but they end up not being as good as a team tutor. Team tutors for the most part have a benefit.

Plus you can’t get a 2 drop with those, if you miss your 2 you can’t get a 3 drop with Mobilize. There’s nothing more disappointing than missing the next turn. Back when I played Avengers when I was missing a drop I’d exhaust every replacement just to make sure the curve was present. Fatal Five had a tutor very close to this but it didn’t work. Getting breakthrough does not happen nearly every turn of the game. To get what you want and be evil you got to end up hurting someone poor Billy buddy learned that the hard way.

With some minimal planning ahead you can assure you hit your curve, your extra Mystique power-up for anyone. With all the shifting messing around its good to have some old fashioned planning. You’ll stun someone on either initiative, especially denying them of their deck with some of the awesome stuff we’ve seen so far.Oh and for those who whine that you want to have the character on the turn where you want to play him well…today you’ll see a card that can do that(not here go check with Kamiza). Heck you could even use this in your row to fetch a drop to use with the 6 drop gambit to get 2 stuns in the build phase. 2 STUNS IN THE BUILD PHASE.

Its such a relief to see the uncommon tutor a thing that made sets like X-Men a favourite make a return. All the best tutors don’t force a discard. I’m gonna want 4 of these and it won’t end up costing me 40 bucks. Thats sweet. This card is good stunning people is good and Marauders are awesome. I can’t wait to start stealing and being Sinister. Lets be bad guys.

Oh and if you somehow don’t stun, Master Thief their Mobilize and go to town.

Marauders Preview Reviews

October 30, 2008

Allrighty problems been lately that all the cards have been too good for me to even preview review due to lack of cons. So I’m gonna skip Exiles and X Force for now and come back to them later.

Tomorrows when the real meat will be posted as there will be a juicy MEV spoiler that will be sure to help you out with your Marauder deck. But what do you get for Marauders.

Well lets see what you do get.

If you wanna see all these cards well with the exception of the final 3 secret cards go check out the preview thread.

http://www.vsrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62644

What I said secret cards? Well those you’ll find tomorrow. Also I gotta go out so I won’t be doing full pros and cons today just thoughts on each card.

Gambit, Le Diable Blank

I’m personally not too hot on this guy. I mean hes there for stuff like Master Thief and Kamiza’s card but in the most part his ability will most likely only hit a off curve deck but it can usually hit a 2 drop in a regular game and thats pretty good.

Random, Alex

Beefy, If they get a neutralized effect you could see him becoming epic. I cannot confirm that they do have such a card but I’m hoping they do. Otherwise hes a nice 4 drop that won’t be doing too much on a Aggro team.

Identity Theft

Golly this card is nuts. Thieving any drop for your 1 drop seems like a unfair advantage almost. Heck in some decks you could forego playing a 2 drop and run mr sinister *shift* and mystique so you could ensure a 1 drop mystique for this amazing card.

Mr. Sinister, Robert Windsor

Go check out x gene decoded and realise how useful a 1 drop sinister will be. That card made me go nuts when I saw it. And this lil dude makes it even better. Not to mention hes just a good card regardless.

Gambit, Traitor

I don’t know why people are complaining about this card I mean even without seeing Cajun Charm he basically says if your hand is empty use messiah complex and stun whoever the heck you want. Thats sweet. Tomorrow he will be sweeeeter.Just start refreshing Kamiza after midnight.

Sabretooth, Wounded Animal

He is HUGE. 11/7 with nearly no drawback. The drawback is nothing since he can always attack up after your 5 stuns down.

Cajun Charm

6 drop Gambit+This = nuts. Yay.

Mr. Sinister, Molecular Manipulator

Boring,Expected,Amazing.

Master Thief

One of the best cards in the game period. So freaking amazing.

Mystique, Raven

A staple for tons of decks for a while to come. Fight or Die!, Heroes of Two Worlds,Assorted Aliases and Of course LOST CITY. Make this card be beyond cool.

X-Gene Decoded

This card is too amazing for words. I mean it can nearly completly drain your opponents deck of everything blue. And if thats not amazing you I don’t know what will.

Now for me to be a tease.

Tomorrows Cards

http://vscorps.wordpress.com/

Kamiza will be previewing a amazing rare for a awesome character that will help puzzle pieces fall into place.

http://vsnotdead.tumblr.com/

VsNotDead will be previewing the last marauder to be shown of the week and wow it’s damn cool.

And of course

https://scythecastle.wordpress.com (that’s me!)

Will be spoiling the glue to fit this delicious threesome together.

So go see all 3 cards tomorrow. (Especially mine) And make sure you read and enjoy the articles. Theres alot more than just going to the preview thread to see the pretty images. Also Read/Rant SHOULD have a preview of the team up tomorrow too. I hope.

Finishing off the X-Factor preview reviews

October 15, 2008

Sorry for the extended absence but I was busy with Thanksgiving then I worked all day yesterday for the Canadian election. Since that is over I’m back now.
Also note I now do 5(or more) preview reviews at a time so I don’t clog up the syndicate with short posts.

I will say though its hard to do a analysis on these cards because they all seem so good.

So here we go!

Cyclops, Astonishing X-Man

Pros:

  • He allows more uses of activated powers especially nice ones that are on energize characters.
  • He can allow a character to attack twice if they do not get stunned on the first attack.
  • He himself has big beefy stats so he can fight too

Cons:

  • Toooooo many good 6 drops. It’s going to be tough to make the decision for a X-Men deck now. Or even X-Factor who got 3 sick 6 drops in one week.

Jean Grey, Jean Grey Summers

Pros:

  • Overall a great 7 drop who seems very versatile in play strategy
  • Coast City just gives her scary options
  • Golden Age Sarge Steel +Her is the lulz

Cons:

  • She is still a 7 drop and seemingly a win more 7 drop. Professor X may remain the best choice for a 7 even if it is a X factor deck.

Fearless Leader:

Pros:

  • With cards like the 5 drop X-Men cyclops from MVL you could attack a extra time with him to beef up a upcurve attack. Its not like in X-Men that you don’t keep your curve. My 5 drop clops goes into your 5. Ok stun. Ready him and he and my 4 will go into your 6.
  • Activated effects. Also there is a problem with The captain naming punisher then cyclops and dropping 4 of these to get sniper counters.

Cons:

  • This may be one of the cards to cut in those decks that have just 1 too many sets of plottwists. Its a card that you have to build a deck with not just toss in any random X-Deck so that might hurt its playability.

First Class

Pros:

  • The card is strong and will surely be used in many X-Factor and even X-men decks for the times to come.
  • Great for defensive decks
  • Great for energize

Cons:

  • I was hoping X-factor would have to rely on the X-men team affiliation for recovery effects and certainly not get one as good as this.

One Man Army

Pros:

  • This card seems to be part of the structure of the multiple man abuse deck
  • If you pitch a 2 drop multipleman you can recover all 1 drops. Seems good.

Cons:

  • Keyword is abuse decks I don’t like decks that can’t die. I still enjoy combat being a high part of this game and the accomplishment of destroying a swarm decks board especially in a non flametrap silver golden is exciting. Now even if you do get that turn where you do it. They can all come flooding back.

Beginning of Exiles Preview reviews tomorrow!

Thanks for reading.

6 Preview Reviews for the price of 1 (still free) X Factor

October 8, 2008

Now luckily it is not some terrible reality tv show I am talking about. Nope I’m talking about the X-Men refeature that isn’t a X-Men refeature.

We get our first peek at the intergalactic pirates, more multiple men hijinks and a 4 drop cyclops that gives June Moon a run for her money. So lets begin.

Cyclops, Man Of Action

Pros:

  • Not loyal in any form at all which means you can splash him in any deck that plays a bunch of dudes and get a free stun of a 3 drop and have a 8/6 to boot.
  • With the exhaustion card from before he will have a nice use even if they no longer have a 3 or less character.
  • 8/6 is nice and beefy too.
  • It’s always nice to have another Radioactive Manswer.
  • COMMON
  • This makes another new drop slot for cykes if I am not mistaken
  • The board never quite dies in X-Men with all the recovery stuff. So having 3 next to him other than maybe some awkward positioning isn’t too hard

Cons:

  • It’s a ability that really should have some sort of loyalty tied to it. It may end up not being too overpowered but currently seems like it could be.
  • No Flavour Text

Man that was a nice card Letsee whats next on the plate.

Polaris, Back In The Fold

Pros:

  • Fair strong activated ability that is coupled with energize
  • Really mucks up turn 6 on a curve initiative matchup (oh I exhaust your 5 and your 4 if you attack with your 6.)

Cons:

  • Costs Cards
  • Might be less useful on turn 7

Polaris is nice and strong and useful and is from a new cool team. Theres just not much to say about her yet.

Next up is more Multiple Man silliness

Multiple Man, Army HYDRA

Pros:

  • Can beef up 1 multiple man for a big swing or beef up one multiple man for a stun back.

Cons:

  • It will be strange to see how this one fits in and plays well with the other multiple men available.

There will be a deck around this dude and deservingly so. Will it turn out to be greatness. Probably. Letsee what else Madrox gets.

Multiplicity

Pros:

  • It’s a nice trick to have especially after using 5 drop madrox and bringing out a board of these buggers.

Cons:

  • Its hard to tell if this card will be used, Multiple Men seem like they have the ability to kill especially with Cable as a capper for them. A stall card such as this one may not even be needed. However if it is needed this will be quite good.

2 to go and they are both X-Men again. Yay!

Strong Guy, Guido Carosella

Pros:

  • He’s going to end up being HUGE. From what we have seen of the team so far there are exhaustion effects left and right and on top of that energize makes them so sometimes they can use these exhaustion effects two times in a row.
  • He very well could be the end condition for the X factor couple him with some to me my X-Men
  • He makes a amazing splash in Marvel Defenders, JSA, Doom Patrol among other decks.

Cons:

  • I can’t really think of many cons to this guy other than hes lacking flight and range so if a opponent wants to try and take him out first they stand a chance at being sucessful. Course this is X-Men so that may not even matter.

One final card and even though I did this in order spoiled you could say I saved the best for last.

They have had cards that can do this in the past but all of which have been stamped.

A 2 and 3 drop for JLA who both have to bounce to hand,A character that HAS to have a cosmic counter on it, A Hidden IG 3 drop who can only do it off initiative, Pitching a card and exhausting and Pitching 2 but being on a 4 drop. Theres more but I won’t spend the time listing them all. This dude is well ALOT better than all of those.

Iceman, Jack Frost

Pros:

  • Hes just amazing, he can just tap to keep you locked.
  • Hes also especially nice coming off a 4 drop that can autostun a 3. Let’s stun your 3 then keep your 4 tapped. Even better coming off the cyclops exhaust 2 dudes card. Ok exhaust 2 people then your biggest one can’t ready oh and if you attack me another one of your dudes can’t ready.
  • To Me My X-Men
  • Not loyal so he can be tossed into a lot of decks

Cons:

  • Pathethic Wonder Woman blablabla
  • He’s overpowered and not loyal
  • Gets less good the older the age gets

What a strange and exciting week so far. Come back during the weekend when I get to any other cards spoiled this week. Thanks for reading. Also for much more detail on the cards ya’ll should go read the articles they were posted in. Great reads all of them.
